A clamshell — also known as hinged blister packaging — is a single-piece, thermoformed plastic package that opens via an integrated film hinge. Both halves are thermoformed from a single sheet of film and connected by the hinge. This makes clamshell packaging the economical all-round solution for self-service retail.
Clamshell packaging excels through simple handling: no separate tool required for opening, stable hold in the closed position via integrated snap tabs or locking mechanisms. At the same time, production is particularly cost-efficient since no second mould half is needed. Consumers can see and touch the product through the transparent shell without damaging the packaging.
