Flocked Inlays — Luxury Feel Meets Thermoforming

Flocked inlays provide a velvet-like soft-touch surface that reliably protects even the most sensitive products against scratches. The upright-standing textile fibers form an elastic cushion — ideal for polished watch cases, glass lenses and medical instruments.

The Process: We source pre-flocked PS film from our partner Krekelberg Flock Products — available in black, gray, white, blue, red as well as custom RAL colors on request. We then thermoform this pre-flocked film on our vacuum forming machines in Sundern into precision inlays. The key: heat is applied specifically from the non-flocked backside of the film, ensuring the velvet surface remains undamaged during the thermoforming process.

Applications: Flocked inlays are used wherever high-value products need to be packaged scratch-free and presented in a premium manner — Watches & Jewelry (scratch protection), Optics & Lenses (dust-free protection), Medical Technology (instrument trays), High-End Tools (presentation cases) and Cosmetics (luxury gift packaging).

Why PS as the Base? Polystyrene delivers the sharpest contours in thermoforming — critical for precise product fit. The flock layer adds only 0.3–0.5 mm in thickness. The combination: precision and luxury in one package.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are flocked inlays?
Flocked inlays are thermoformed plastic inserts (usually made from PS) that feature a velvet-like flock coating. Short textile fibers are electrostatically applied upright onto the surface — the result is a soft, scratch-protecting velvet surface.
What colors are available?
As standard we offer black, gray, white, blue and red. Custom colors to RAL specifications are available on request — just contact us.
How does flocking protect against scratches?
The upright-standing flock fibers form an elastic cushion between the product and the molded part. Even highly sensitive surfaces (polished watch cases, glass lenses) are reliably protected against scratches.
What is the minimum order quantity for flocked inlays?
We produce flocked inlays from 5,000 pieces and specialize in high-volume production of up to 500 million pieces per year per article. The flocking is carried out by our partner Krekelberg Flock Products — a specialist in electrostatic flocking.
Can materials other than PS be flocked?
In principle yes — ABS or PET can also be flocked. However, PS offers the best combination of contour sharpness and adhesion base for the flock. We are happy to advise you on your specific application.
