G-PET —
extremely tough & sealable
for medical & technical use

G-PET (glycol-modified PET, also known as PETG) from Krumbeck combines extreme toughness with sealability — ideal for medical sterile packaging with Tyvek sealing and as an outer layer in GAG/GRG coextrusions. Manufactured in Sundern (Sauerland), Germany.

G-PET — the all-rounder among PET variants

G-PET (glycol-modified PET) is PET with a glycol modification that makes the material significantly tougher, more flexible and sealable. Unlike standard PET, G-PET does not crystallise during thermoforming — it remains amorphous and crystal clear. This property is crucial for transparent packaging where the product needs to remain visible.

The key property of G-PET is its sealability. G-PET can be reliably sealed with Tyvek (DuPont), films and other G-PET surfaces. This makes it the material of choice for medical sterile packaging. Since G-PET as a full material is significantly more expensive than standard PET, it is commonly used in practice as a thin outer layer in GAG/GRG coextrusions — providing HF sealability at a fraction of the cost.

With a density of 1.27 g/cm³ and a forming temperature of 110–150 °C, G-PET sits below the processing window of standard PET — meaning faster cycle times and lower energy consumption. Extreme toughness: G-PET does not break or shatter, even at low temperatures or under drop impact.

Typical applications: medical sterile packaging (Tyvek sealing), pharmaceutical blister packaging, high-quality product protection packaging and as an outer layer in HF-sealable GAG/GRG films. Learn more on our page about medical blister packaging.

Sealable

Tyvek, film and G-PET-to-G-PET sealing possible — the foundation for sterile medical packaging and tamper-proof blisters.

Extremely Tough

No shattering, no breaking — even in cold conditions. G-PET offers maximum impact resistance and shatterproof protection for sensitive products.

Crystal Clear

Remains amorphous, no crystallisation after forming — perfect transparency for product presentation and visual inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions about G-PET

What is the difference between G-PET and PET?

G-PET (glycol-modified PET) contains a glycol modification that makes the material tougher and sealable. While PET can become semi-crystalline during thermoforming (causing haziness), G-PET remains amorphous and crystal clear.

Is G-PET the same as PETG?

Yes, G-PET and PETG refer to the same material — glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate. In the packaging industry, the term G-PET is commonly used, while PETG is more common in 3D printing.

Why G-PET for medical packaging?

G-PET can be reliably sealed with Tyvek (DuPont) — the standard material for sterile medical packaging. The seal seam is peelable and provides reliable protective packaging for sterile products. Additionally, G-PET is extremely impact-resistant and does not shatter.

What does G-PET as an outer layer in GAG mean?

In GAG films (G-PET/A-PET/G-PET), G-PET forms the outer layers. Under high-frequency energy (HF), these G-PET layers soften and fuse together — the packaging is permanently and tamper-proof sealed.

Who supplies your G-PET films?

Our G-PET films and G-PET-based coextrusions (GAG, GRG) are sourced from Krumbeck — a specialised manufacturer of high-quality PET films.
